Risks Of The Anabolic Steroid TikTok Trend Targeting Teens

TikTok trends come and go, but the current trenbolone anabolic steroid trend can leave nasty side effects that stay for a lifetime.

What Are Steroids?

Steroids are a manufactured version of the hormones produced naturally in the body and fall into two broad categories:

Corticosteroids: Corticosteroids, like cortisone, are drugs doctors prescribe to help control inflammation and conditions like asthma and lupus. They are not the same as anabolic steroids.

Anabolic Steroids: Synthetic (manmade) hormones that can augment the body’s ability to manufacture muscle and prevent muscle breakdown, anabolic steroids are often taken by athletes who hope to run faster, hit farther, lift heavier weights, jump higher, or have more endurance.

Trenbolone acetate, referred to as “Tren” by many GenX users, is sold under the brand names Finajet and Finaplix, among others. It is an androgen and anabolic steroid used in veterinary medicine to improve the profitability of livestock by promoting muscle growth in cattle.

It is against the law to use anabolic steroids without a prescription in the US.

How Do Anabolic Steroids Work?

Steroids resemble the chemical structure of the sex hormone testosterone, which the body naturally produces.

They direct the body to copy these by enhancing male characteristics like bulkier muscle mass, facial hair growth, and deepening of the voice. Higher testosterone levels in the blood stimulate muscle tissue, causing muscles to grow larger and stronger.

However, too much testosterone in the body can be harmful over time.

Why Do Teens Use Steroids?

While professional sportspeople are often accused of using steroids to give them an edge competitively, this has trickled down to younger athletes, too.

They face pressure to be stronger and faster, often because they plan to make it to college and professional leagues. Similarly, teens spend a good deal of time on social media and are often drawn into trends like the “Tren” trend.

Although steroids promise significant results, there is little proof that they deliver, and they are more likely to harm. Because these side effects are not immediately noticeable and often only turn up until years later, it can lead teens to believe they are not harmful.

Risks of Anabolic Steroids

Anabolic steroids are dangerous because:

  • They are illegal.
  • They can cause health problems, especially in large doses over time. However, the issues may only start cropping up years after a person took the steroids.
  • Buying steroids online is risky. They could be counterfeit and or contain added toxic substances.

Side Effects and Health Problems of Anabolic Steroids

Steroids can have severe side effects, especially when using them for a long time. The side effects of steroids include:

  • Violent, aggressive behavior and mood swings
  • Acne occurs or gets worse
  • Increased breast growth in males, especially teens
  • Stunted growth in teens as steroids makes their bones mature too fast. They also tend to stop growing at an early age.
  • Liver tumors
  • Abnormal enlargement of the heart muscles and blood lipid problems leading to lifelong heart issues
  • Higher risk for hair loss and male-pattern baldness
  • Irreversible stretch marks
  • Muscle aches

Males who use steroids can experience impotence, reduced sperm production, and smaller testicle size. Females who use steroids can encounter problems with their menstrual cycles.

Steroids can disrupt the maturation and release of eggs from the ovaries, causing long-term problems with fertility. In addition, girls can experience:

  • Deepening of the voice
  • Male-type facial and body hair growth and male-pattern baldness
  • Enlargement of the clitoris

Trenbolone users often also experience a Tren Cough shortly after a Tren injection.

It’s so bad that teens may struggle to breathe or speak, most likely because some Tren was accidentally introduced into the circulatory system and, from there, found its way into the lungs.

Some people tell themselves they’ll only use steroids for a season or a school year, but steroids are addictive. When users stop taking steroids, they often experience withdrawal symptoms like appetite loss, tiredness, restlessness, insomnia, mood swings, and depression.

Legal Risks and Other Steroid Issues

Teens who use steroids without a prescription are breaking the law. The consequences include jail time or monetary fines, and for those who compete, the risk of being banned from an event or team or forfeiting trophies or medals if they test positive for steroids.

Steroids can also have far-reaching psychological side effects, and users have become aggressive or combative, delusional- believing things that aren’t true, or experiencing paranoia- extreme feelings of mistrust or fear.  (paranoia).

Steroid users are also thought to be at higher risk for using other drugs, like alcohol or cocaine, often to counteract some of the adverse effects of steroids.

The “Tren” TikTok trend that involved injecting trenbolone has the added risk of infection with HIV. This virus causes AIDS if they share needles with others. Dirty needles can also cause the liver disease hepatitis, or bacterial endocarditis- an infection of the inner lining of the heart.

What Should I Know About The Steroid Trenbolone?

Don’t take a shortcut to increasing size and strength- you risk harming your body, getting disqualified, or- because it’s illegal, getting arrested. Instead, work hard and train in a healthy way by eating the right foods, practicing, and working out without using drugs.
